Load Of Hay, Hampstead

This is a landmark in Hampstead, north London dating back almost 300 years.  It's a rather handsome old pub with a new name: The Load of Hay.  The current building dates back to 1864, but the name dates back to 1721 when a coaching house stood on the same spot. (And for history buffs the path running alongside is still called Hay Mews).

The pub was bought by new owners Gresham Collective in 2015, and the renovations are now complete.

What's the look? Traditional features have been retained (column cast radiators, painted panelling on the walls), but these are mixed with mirror-lined pendant lighting, buttoned leather banquettes and metal bench tables. There's a microbrewery in the basement too so craft beer is on tap

And the wallcovering? Our Kabuki has been selected (this is such a versatile design!) alongside Industrial Inc

The Rose Hotel, Tralee

Formerly known as The Fels Point, this hotel was purchased in 2015 by Eibhlin and Dick Henggeler of Washington, USA.  Now known as The Rose, here's a 4 Star Plus hotel with a wow factor.

The hotel also hosts the annual Rose of Tralee festival; one of Ireland's largest and longest running events. Young women of Irish descent from around the world travel to County Kerry to join the festival and celebrate Irish culture.  And every year a Rose of Tralee is crowned.

After moving to the USA, Eibhlin (originally from Killarney) and her husband remained regular visitors to Ireland and the festival, and their daughter Dorothy also succeeded in becoming the Rose of Washington.  Sadly in 2014 Dorothy passed away.

Eileen and Dick returned to Ireland and noticed the Felspoint hotel (as it was known then) was for sale. They bought the hotel - and renamed it The Rose as a tribute to their daughter.  The Rose Hotel stays a focal point of the festival each year, with Eileen and Dick as patrons.

They approached interior designers Kate Cronin and Denise Ryan of Fineline Interiors. Their brief was to create an elegant, warm and friendly interior, while adding glamour and glitz to reflect the Rose Festival.  Local builders and crafts people were used throughout the project. Works began earlier in 2016.

The designers have chosen traditional celtic colours; copper, gold and soft greens, and have combined these with decadent textures such as crocodile skin, pleated silk and burnished metals.

Antiqued mirrors, mahogany, embossed leather and velvet add to the comfort and luxury.  Cosy fireplaces have been incorporated, and lighting is kept low with concealed uplighters and downlighters.  Dorothy Henggeler's favourite colours are found in the aptly named Dott's Bar.

Cooler colours appear in other areas of the hotel. Wallcoverings are incorporated into recesses.

We're priveleged to have so many of our wallcoverings included in the scheme.
Here are links to featured designs : Fret, Nile Croc, Metalline, Vogue Pleat, Laser, Darcey, and Embroidery

With 55 locations stretching from Aberdeen to Plymouth, Grosvenor Casinos is the biggest casino chain in the UK. Their branch in Gloucester Road, London has recently undergone a refurb, and Tektura wallcoverings have been chosen.

Starting off in the reception area, our Liaison wallcovering introduces strong geometric pattern and offers a hard wearing surface.

The geometric theme is carried through in flooring and upholstery too.  On the walls our Meander design adds three dimensional texture and is another hardwearing, scrubbable vinyl.

Newhey carpets are used throughout, and below you can see a bespoke print wallcovering we created specially for the client to work alongside the flooring.

This purpose built care home opened it's doors in June 2016.  Sai Ram Villa caters for a mainly Asian community and colours and themes for the interior have been chosen accordingly.

Interior Designer Gill Jackson specialises in healthcare interiors, and decided on two bespoke wallcoverings for this project. Both the Taj Mahal mural and the Buddha print can be seen in the lounge areas, and again in the home's salon.  Printed on fabric-backed vinyl, the designs offer a durable finish and conform to fire regulations required for public spaces.

FAR HORIZONS - new intros

Welcome to the first of our new intros for September 2016. We've named this theme Far Horizons.
There's a misty quality to these effects, evoking images of land and seascapes, sunsets and dawn.

Tundra's undulating pattern is combined with a grasscloth texture. Offered in soft matt
heather tones, muted greys and deep blues, Tundra can be pattern matched to create
a continuous pattern across the wall.

Shimmering and reflective surfaces are created using Mylar foil as our base material
for our new intros Mylar Trees and Mountains. We've printed silver birch trees and a
collage of snow capped mountains in blue/black and monochrome. Both Mylar Trees
and Mountains are made to order, and can be recoloured as desired.

Beams of blurred light are the inspiration behind Strobe. Offered in palest creams through
to burnt orange, teal and black combined with gold. Strobe has a woven texture with
metallic highlights.

Meridian combines layers of colour and alternating shimmer/matt. This design incorporates
a vertical seam, creating a panelled effect across the wall.

Raw silk slubs and with a choice of soft neutrals through to vivid blues, orange and pink,
Diablo is richly textured, iridescent design. The horizontal effect is designed to create a
panelled effect across a wall.

DESERT CRAFT - new intros

We've grouped these new designs under our theme 'Desert Crafts'.  Styles are inspired by global design, and village life.  Materials traditionally used such as skins, feathers and grasses are reinterpreted into contemporary effects, with colours reflecting the surrounding landscapes.

CASTAWAY is a loose, chunky weave. Reminiscent of raffia, colours focus on dried grasses, terracotta, clay and sand, with accents in indigo and teal. Castaway is a durable contract-quality vinyl with fabric backing, 137cm wide.

Finer, more closely woven textures are found in NYALA WEAVE, with coordinating NYALA. NYALA's printed stripe is picked out in subtle shifts in colour, some with a hint of shimmer. Both designs are 137cm wide, and fabric-backed vinyls

Looking at SAHARA we think of tie-dyed fabric.  With a grasscloth texture, this tonal overprint includes deep khaki and indigo in amongst the colour range of soft neutrals.  Sahara is a scrubbable vinyl with fabric backing for ultimate durability.

This stunning feather printed texture, along with skins and cowhide can be found in our CURIOUS COLLECTION.   All designs in this collection are lighter weight vinyl and available in rolls 53cm x 10cm.

Oversized and stylised, MIX AND MINGLE takes a wide-open weave and creates a random patchwork effect.  Colours are burnt into the surface. Deepest indigo is featured along with warm greys, sand and black. 137cm wide, fabric backed vinyl.

NEO VINTAGE - new intros

We've called our latest group of new intros 'Neo Vintage'.  Read on for the full story.

We're seeing historical elements and vintage craftsmanship finding their way into modern design.  There's a desire to embrace traditional decorative techniques such as hand-embroidery, gilding and weaving, and then reimagine and recreate these effects using modern materials. Whether aged and faded or polished and new,  we see wood and concrete embellished with oversized stitches;  leathers burnished and embossed, vintage tiles and kilims upcycled into new schemes.

Our new design Geffrye is inspired by brocades and needlework. The artwork was created for us by Custhom, an award-winning duo who make their own range of wallpapers and ceramics.  Custhom created this design after visiting the Geffrye museum in east London - the go-to place for designers wanting to learn more about interior styles through the ages.  We digitally print Geffrye onto our wallcoverings, so not only can the design be custom-coloured, we can print onto a myriad of textures including silk, stone and metallics creating a totally unique finish.

Vizcaya was launched 30 years ago.  We've pulled this design from the archives, recoloured and relaunched.  Based on tooled leather, it's deep texture is full of intricate detail. Reminiscent of vintage wallpapers from 100 years ago, Vizcaya has a pearly iridescent sheen, adding depth and character.  It's highly durable contract quality vinyl, scrubbable and 137cm wide

Faded, aged and distressed looks are in demand, and our Essentials Collection  captures the look perfectly with this encaustic tile print. There's a hint of romanesque design too combined with cooler greys, terracotta and warm white. Essentials designs are offered in rolls 53cm x 10m.

The design duo Custhom have created Rye for us.  Reminiscent of gilded leaves, and created with 3 layers of fine print, we can custom colour Rye to suit a client's own scheme.  We digitally print the design to order - we print onto our wallcoverings - so clients can create something unique by choosing silks, stone textures, weaves or metallic effects as the base.

Hand-looms and village crafts come to mind with our Essentials Collections.  Designed to look worn and aged over time, these kilim prints evoke a sense of history and past lives. This design is available in rolls 53cm x 10cm.

We've named this beaded effect Chaplet.  The beaded texture is highly iridescent, catching the light and adding depth and drama to a scheme. It's a heavy-duty durable fabric backed vinyl, suitable for any interior and 137cm wide.

And finally Damsel Damask. This stunning over-sized damask is designed by Timorous Beasties for Tektura.  Zoom in to see the detail - a mix of watercolour print and fine illustration. We digitally print this design and can custom colour, resize and repeat to fit any space.

SLICK URBAN - new intros

$

The industrial influence on interiors is long established, with concrete, brick and stone forming the backdrop to many schemes.  However, there are two sides to the urban look: raw, weathered, aged and distressed....or polished, honed and sleek.  We've named our latest intros Slick Urban. Guess which category they fit into!

Surfaces are smoother, sophsticated and refined. Small details emerge in patterns that would once have been hidden in rougher surfaces. Matt effects include subtle flickers of  shine and seams of iridescent metal.

Colours are muted - the palette focuses on warm and cool greys, soft silver gold and bronze. Patinised and burnished metals dominate. Warm wood tones and flashes of charcoal black and burnt umber are the understated accents.

IGNEOUS is a finely detailed print inspired by stone and marble - it's been created for us by Custhom - a dynamic design duo from London specialising in hand-crafted decorative techniques. Igneous is made to order and can therefore be printed on various surfaces: smooth metallics, silk weaves or fine sand textures according to budget and taste. Colours can be customised too - there's no minimum order.

The combination of metal and matt surfaces is a theme that runs through our Slick Urban designs : GILDED MASONRY has a burnished surface that gives a subtle iridescent finish, while our WORKROOM matt cork texture includes random flecks of metallic inks.

JAILHOUSE ROCKS offers a matt, smooth finish - mimicking breeze block. This subtle print comes in neutral shades of grey, pebble and stone, with accents in copper and steel. 137cm wide, fabric-backed vinyl

Our trio of sleek weaves and textures  are Kendo, Roulette and Metal Grooves.  KENDO is a self coloured satinised rib; ROULETTE is Mylar-based, so threads shimmer and catch the light. And METAL GROOVES is created using multi layers of colour, giving depth by mixing matt and metallic inks. All three are fabric-backed vinyls, 137cm wide.

High shine Mylar is a perfect way to add drama. We offer MYLAR BRICK as a new take on bare-brick walls...  a simple print combined with Mylar mirror finish is understated and sleek. And shown here is part of our MYLAR MAP design;  we can source any map for you and print onto Mylar mirror finish.  These designs are made to order, and of course can be custom coloured or printed on alternative base materials as needed.

OAK MODERNE combines increasingly popular wood...with a hint of shine.  Oak Moderne offers both metallic and non-metallic versions and is fabric backed vinyl, at 137cm wide.

MARCO PIERRE WHITE and PARK AVENUE HOTEL, BELFAST

Since it's opening in 1959, the 4 star Park Avenue Hotel has been owned by the same family for three generations.  The hotel has recently undergone a complete renovation. Let's have a look.

Interior Designer Brenda Mulligan has chosen an eclectic mix of wallcovering starting with Grand Paper Damask for the reception area. This dramatic repeating pattern is designed by Timorous Beasties for Tektura, and we print to order. We can also rescale, and print on many different background textures - creating a totally unique finish for individual clients.

Still in the reception, another feature wall has been created using our Shibori wallcovering, along with Nano - an iridescent boxy texture. Both are hardwearing fabric-backed vinyl wallcoverings, designed specifically for high traffic areas.

The hotel also hosts the only Marco Pierre White restaurant in NorthernIreland. The Steak has a monochrome theme. Pictures of brooding Marco Pierre White  adorn the walls, with Tektura's Overture Wall  iridesent block-effect wallcovering as the backdrop..  Head chef is Eddie Patrick (husband of Mandy Patrick - owner of the hotel)

Blocks, fluid pattern and floral effects are mixed together throughout.  The theme continues with our Embroidery wallcovering

Tektura's swirling Oil Punk wallcovering has also been chosen for the restaurant and public areas, along with Orlean - a textured silk effect.

And finally red makes a reapparance in the bedrooms, where Tektura Ridge wallcovering has been chosen for the bedhead walls.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE, MAYFAIR

Our wallcoverings are often found in luxury hotels and commercial spaces... but here our products have been selected for a residential setting with stunning results.

Designers Atelier di Spera chose numerous designs from our range for this private residence in Mayfair, London.  Let's have a look.

Textured tactile surfaces are key to the scheme:  Velvet upholstery, satin and quilting are pulled together in shades of taupe, mushroom and warm silver.  Starting with the bedrooms - the master bedroom features our wallcovering Orlean - a deeply textured, pleated silk effect.

Guest bedrooms continue the neutral colour scheme, and here we can see Fiddleback - a finely printed woodgrain (or silk?).

Moving to the lounge area, Luxe wallcovering offers an iridescent tiled effect

The lounge also incorporates a feature wall of tiled mirrors (we felt compelled to show before/after pictures here - we hear it was a labour of love!).

And bathroom walls are covered in Rock Steady - another blocky textured design. All wallcoverings chosen are scrubbable and these vinyls have a fabric-backing for extra durability. This quality of wallcovering is designed specifically for hotels and public spaces, but textures, colours and pattern work equally well in residential settings.

72 LUXURY RETIREMENT APARTMENTS

In late October 2016 a new development of 72 apartments was completed.  This luxury development has been designed for independent retirement living and is based at Keble Court in Church Crookham, near Fleet.

The apartments are  part of The Anchor Group; an award winning not-for-profit organisation, with retirement villages and homes across the UK.

Anchor commissioned Devon Interiors to design the apartments and communal areas, and Tektura wallcoverings have been used throughout.

In communal areas, our designs Odyssey and Madras have been selected. Both are wide-width contract-quality hard-wearing vinyl with fabric backing for extra durability.

Our wallcovering Torino has been used extensively and with a wide range of colours, this design offers the opportunity to differentiate between areas within the property.

Each apartment is individually decorated to a high standard. In bedrooms we can see Cavatina Silkwallcovering - a subtle horizontal print, and Kabuki- an oriental-inspired floral effect. Again these are fabric-backed vinyls so are washable and scrubbable.

In the communal lounge - designers Devon Interiors opted for a London cityscape. We print this design to order and can resize and recolour to fit any space. For this project the clients have chosen a blue wash overprint to coordinate with other furnishings.

THE HOP MERCHANT, NOTTINGHAM

With an investment of over £400,000, the Hop Merchant has been completely revamped.  Owners Punch Taverns commissioned interior designers Nanu Soda, who in turn wanted to retain the bar's quirky character while making the bar's craft beer and real ale the new focal point of their scheme.

Furniture and furnishings are an eclectic mix, and follow a vintage industrial style. Our wallcovering Hadrian has been chosen for the main bar - it's rough aged texture complements the charred blackened wood and vintage floral artwork.

The hallway connecting upper and lower floors is decorated with our Amp'd wallcovering. The large-scale pixelated stripe contrasts with pale floors and exposed brick walls.  Amp'd is a fabric-backed vinyl - scrubbable and hardwearing so resistant to knocks and scrapes in a busy corridor.

Bathrooms include vintage style tiling, exposed pipes and recycled beer barrels doubling up as sinks. Throughout the Hop Merchant floors have been replaced with encaustic tiles and scrubbed wood, and continuing the industrial theme chicken wire has been used for cupboard doors.

NEW INTROS JAN 2017

We're kick starting 2017 with new designs !

Our theme for January is natural surfaces. Our new ranges reflect a deep seated desire to connect with nature - trees and greenery of course, water, and tactile surfaces. Our first group of intros focus on stone effects.  (more to follow!)

Let's introduce Set in Stone - a smoothly textured and stylised marble.  Colours stay neutral, from warm white and sand through to deepest black. As with all these new intros, Set in Stone is 137cm wide, and durable fabric-backed vinyl.

And in contrast, our new design Concrete has a rough textured surface with glints of mica shining through to catch the light.

Outback is reminiscent of cracked, dried earth...or perhaps peeling paint comes to mind. The overprint is created with both matt and pearl inks. For dramatic effect, choose Outback in black and white, or deepest teal and purple. Click on the link below to see the full colour range.

Here we've taken a traditional marble texture and created Marble Block - a simple tiled effect. Each block measures 16cm and colours concentrate on natural taupes, subtle greys and soft shades of aqua. Marble Block is smooth and matt.

And Carrara - a dramatic, large scale marble - focused on neutral tones, with accents in indigo (as shown), mulberry and black.

HEIMTEX 2017

We've just come back from Heimtex in Frankfurt - a major annual exhibition focusing on interior furnishings. Each year Heimtex create a theme park telling us about trends.  The focus for 2017 is exploration ; a journey of discovery for the senses.

Let's have a look at the first theme : NATURAL EXPLORATION

Heimtex tells us that we will rediscover urban aspects through NATURE. Texture is dominated by natural fibre effects such as wood-like reliefs or bark structures. Materials make use of geometric elements to imitate the natural world. Camouflage patterns are incorporated, and intensive green tones mix with colours inspired by bark and earth.

PLANETARY EXPLORATION : In an unknown interplanetary world, raw materials are used and a new magical brilliance emerges.  There's a mineral-like delicacy in pattern and structure, and materials are reminiscent of the moon's surface or a protective shell.  Colours play with light and dark, and oscillate between bright white and ash coloured tones.

VIRTUAL EXPLORATION : Digital processes enable new interpretations of transparency. Surfaces have a mother-of-pearl like shimmer and are reminiscent of reflections in water. Extravagant florals, embroidery, jacquard and lace dominate.  Colours are lively and reminiscent of water.

CULTURAL EXPLORATION : Cultural influences will merge and traditional techniques are modernised.  The result is highly contemporary and luxurious.  Natural pigments combine with an urban colour palette to form a universal ethnic look.

You may have spotted we've added in a selection of our own wallcovering designs in each theme - if you'd like to know more about these, please click on the following links : OutbackHeritage Wood, Panoramas by Richard Osbourne, Igneous by Custhom, Rare Finds, Concrete, Diablo, Casbah, Vizcaya, Mirrors by Laura Hart, Lombok Grille, Nyala

DAN SAVAGE - hand-drawn whimsical murals

An award winning artist, Dan Savage has been commissioned by many interior designers to create art for public spaces - and in particular health care interiors. He is passionate about this market sector, and how art can help create an uplifting and recuperative environment.  (If you'd like to see projects Dan's been involved in - just clickhere )

We're all aware that health care interiors are in the spotlight, and Dan's designs offer a unique solution for wall decoration.  Each mural incorporates elements of nature, and familiar scenes along with quirky details create talking points or act as wayfinding markers.   All designs are hand-drawn, and we print as wallcovering, window graphics or mounted artwork.

Dan has created 5 designs exclusively for Tektura, inspired by rural and village scenes, landscapes and the seaside. Whether used in health care or a commercial setting, research shows that scenes depicting nature or familiar landmarks (real or stylised) can improve mood, enhance performance and aid memory.

Our designs are each made up of 10 individual 'scenes'.  They can be shuffled in any sequence; used as a feature area, or to cover an entire wall. Each scene can be printed up to 3 metres high (or extend the sky for extra height), and colours can be customised

Here's Seaside as an example - 10 individual scenes - simply mix and match to create your own design.

These designs work equally well in all market sectors : health care, hotel or commercial interiors.  @dansavage_art

Photography and panoramas for big walls by Richard Osbourne

$

Richard Osbourne takes photos that are designed to look good big - imagine walls up to 28 metres long and 4 metres high. Quality is key and Richard's pictures are regularly used by interior designers looking for the best they can find for health care, commercial and hotel projects.

With Richard Osbourne's pictures, there's no blur, no fuzzy patches, no pixelation.  Once enlarged to full wall size, his photographs remain sharp, full of detail and colours are true.

Richard is passionate about creating uplifting, stimulating environments, and much of his work concentrates on images of trees, woodlands and familiar landscapes. They introduce nature into our interiors and we all know the benefits, particularly in health care: recovery times are quicker, wellbeing is increased and stress levels are reduced.

And it's not just about healthcare and healing. Images of trees and scenic views (whether real or fake) are shown to increase productivity and creativity in the workplace too.

Finding good quality photography is challenging, but Richard Osbourne provides the solution : His pictures are super-high res, and once enlarged to full wall size, they retain their detail and can be enjoyed close up.

Working in partnership with Richard, we have chosen 23 ultra-high res images and panoramic views of trees and forests, land and seascapes, along with selected city scenes.  We have considered areas of use, from contemporary office settings, hotel and leisure interiors, hospitals, dementia and care homes.

Here's a glimpse of what's on offer.   We can print as wallcovering on a variety of base materials - textured, smooth, iridescent and metallic. We also offer all Richard Osbourne's images as window graphics and acrylic panels.  Every photo in our range can be printed up to 3 metres high without any loss of detail. Many can be enlarged to 4 metres high.

Glasgow University

Traditional classroom layouts have changed little over the years, with students sitting in rows facing the tutor.

These days, there's a far greater emphasis on active learning, and following extensive research Glasgow University decided to put modern teaching methods to the test by redesigning various learning spaces within their campus.

HLM Architects were asked to assist in the project and created various pilot rooms. Chairs were chosen with a large writing tablet attached, so each student had their own integrated desk surface. This gave far greater potential for changing the room layout: chairs could be arranged in rows, pairs or grouped together. Mobile white boards were introduced for added flexibility.

The designers also wanted to create a signature look that could be carried through the campus. Tektura's wallcovering designs by Jonnie Lawes were chosen for their bold, graphic style. Colours were also customised to match furniture and create a stimulating and fresh environment.

Seminar spaces and teaching labs of various sizes were refurbished, corresponding to user groups with specific needs.

Here are the wallcoverings chosen : Polygon, Rhombus and Geometric - designed by Jonnie Lawes for Tektura.  We recoloured Polygon and Geometric for this project : it's a straightforward process and enables the client to create unique colour combinations...and fit any scheme. We can resize to fit any wall, and we'll print as window graphics too.  Click here to see all designs by Jonnie Lawes.

The Bootham Tavern, York

Dating back to at least 1745, The Bootham Tavern in York has recently undergone a £500,000 makeover. During the course of 10 weeks both the exterior and interior underwent a complete refurbishment.

This is a collaboration between national pub operator Punch and local entrepreneur Nicola Hunter.  Designers Nanu Soda were commissioned to revamp the interior.

The new owners wanted to retain original features and create a contemporary yet traditional pub atmosphere. Dark wood parquet flooring has been retained, along with exposed fireplaces and brick.

Tektura wallcoverings feature in the bar area on the ceiling and walls.  A distressed wood chevron wallcovering  has been used extensively on ceilings and is part of our Essentials Collection

Designers Nanu Soda chose another design from the same collection - this time a marbled effect wallcovering picking up on the warm browns, coppers and greys used in the overall interior scheme.

Charred-style wood has been used on the front of bars, and our West End wallcovering - another distressed wood effect - has been chosen for feature areas on walls.

Upstairs, the Bootham Tavern has 6 letting rooms - and these have also been redesigned. Tektura worked with the designers in sourcing photography of the local area and we printed as wallcovering.  Various images were considered (shown on the right), and we adjusted the colours to fit with each bedroom scheme.

Sedgemoor Dementia support Centre, Liverpool

Sedgemoor is an award winning development designed for people living with dementia. The centre is open plan and filled with natural light whilst the circular layout is easy to navigate with familiar objects acting as wayfinders.

The architects also incorporated a fully immersive 4D theatre featuring sights, sounds and even smells to aid cognition. Have a look here

Architect Joy McDonnell explains: “Good design for people living with dementia is based upon contrast, colour and clarity. Life is easier when surroundings make sense and the facilities are clearly marked. For example, as we grow older we often start to lose colour vision, and this can be more pronounced with dementia. Red however remains easier to see so we made sure red played an important part in the scheme.”

Professional artists were commissioned to develop designs for Sedgemoor. Oona Culley created Fading Forms, a series of hand-painted designs of grasses and seedheads which Tektura then turned into wallcoverings and window graphics. The outside walls of the courtyard garden are covered with ceramic tiles by Robert Dawson, inspired by the famous Minton tiles on the floor of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall.
